Manchester United face competition from Barcelona and Real Madrid for Ibrahima Konate
A report by Spanish outlet AS (h/t The Sun) mentions that La Liga giants, Real Madrid and Barcelona, have joined Manchester United in the list of clubs interested in a transfer for RB Leipzig defender, Ibrahima Konate.
Konate has been impressive during his stint at the German club this year. The 21-year-old centre-back has made 15 appearances for Leipzig as his team sits 2nd in the Bundesliga.
The defender’s physical attributes and strength have seemingly caught the eye of big clubs around Europe, Barcelona and Los Galacticos included. Their involvement with Konate comes as added competition for United.
They also face serious competition from Chelsea for the French defender. And Arsenal are also linked with a move for the youngster, who joined Leipzig from Sochaux all the way back in 2017. (h/t The Sun)
Worth the effort
But Leipzig would want good money for the defender considering they are already set to lose a starting centre-back in the summer. Dayot Upamecano has agreed on a deal to join Bayern Munich once this season ends.
United are reported to be looking for a long-term defensive partner for Harry Maguire in the heart of their defence. And Konate, who is just 21, could be a great signing in that regard.
However, Chelsea seem to pose the most serious threat to United when it comes to signing the Frenchman. The report mentions that the Blues think they could have the ‘edge’ when it comes to signing Konate.
This is because Thomas Tuchel’s assistant, Zsolt Low, knows the defender from his time at Leipzig.
