Marcos Rojo confirms he talked with Edinson Cavani as Manchester United exit looms
Uncertainty continues to surround the future of Manchester United star Edinson Cavani as his deal at Old Trafford continues to run down.
The 34-year-old joined the club on a one-year deal last summer. Despite there being an option to further his stay until 2022, the club are yet to make their move.
One club that have been in the news seeking the player’s services is Argentine giants Boca Juniors. One of South America’s legendary clubs, signing Cavani would boost their chances of winning the Copa Libertadores.
They also have a former United ace within their ranks, who has been in touch with Cavani. Speaking to TNT Sports (h/t Sport Witness), Marcos Rojo admitted that he spoke with the Uruguayan veteran.
“I spoke to him.”
Both players were together only for a brief time at Old Trafford. Whether they are set for a better spell with Boca remains to be seen.
Rojo admits that Cavani’s potential move would be a blessing to Argentine football. Despite his age, the 34-year-old still has a few years left in him and could enjoy a new challenge.
The player’s father too had recently admitted that he might be on his way back to South America. Doing so would bring to an end a fruitful 14-year stay in Europe.
Cavani joined Palermo in 2007 and has since then gone on to make a name for himself at Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain. While his move to United may have come a tad too late, he still continues to uphold his reputation as a reliable striker.

While he is not a long-term option, Cavani’s presence has been a godsend given Marcus Rashford’s injuries and Anthony Martial’s loss of form. Signing a new striker in the summer is a no-brainer if the 34-year-old does leave.
