“Got to perform”: Solskjaer gives his verdict on Man United goalkeeper showdown

Dean Henderson has challenged David de Gea for the number 1 spot at Man United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted that Manchester United will continue to keep their faith in David de Gea

According to The Sun, Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted that David de Gea could go straight into the starting lineup once he returns.

The Spaniard had travelled back home to Spain for the birth of his child. In his absence, Dean Henderson has been the club’s preferred choice in goal.

The 24-year-old has so far put in a Jekyll and Hyde performance. He impressed in the 2-0 win over Manchester City but failed to keep out Simon Kjaer’s header against AC Milan in the Europa League.

Despite Henderson’s pros outweighing his cons, Solskajer has admitted that it is foolish to write off De Gea. The 30-year-old has been Untied’s go-to man in goal for the last 10 years and is still amongst the world’s best in his position.

“David has been here for ten years and he has been absolutely brilliant for us.”

Solskjaer is aware that some people have been writing off De Gea over the past few months. He does not share the same belief and has backed his number one.

“I’m not blind, I have seen the last couple of weeks, with people writing David off.”

It does not, however, mean the end of the road for Henderson. While Solskjaer rates De Gea, he has refused to explicitly call the competition between him and Henderson for the starting spot.

“Dean is learning, he is getting better and better, he’s improving and there is no such thing as an undisputed No 1 here. You have got to perform.”

Performance is key and Henderson will get another opportunity to showcase his ability against West Ham later tonight.
