Manchester United earmark Gianluigi Donnarumma to replace David de Gea
According to Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport via Milan News, Manchester United have earmarked Gianluigi Donnarumma to replace current No.1 David de Gea.
The Rossoneri No.1 has been critical for the Italians this season. His performances against Rio Ave and Red Star Belgrade have seen Milan progress to the last 16 of the Europa League.
The 22-year-old is already one of the best young goalkeepers in the world. He has been in goal for Milan since the age of 16 and has already amassed 237 appearances, keeping 83 clean sheets. (h/t Transfermarkt)
The report goes on to add that United are keen for the player to succeed De Gea in goal. The Spaniard is currently in Madrid following the birth of his first child.
He could be set to return to Spain after 10 successful years at Old Trafford. The move will bring him closer to his wife, who works regularly as a television presenter in Madrid. (h/t Sky Sports)
Currently in the final few months of his contract, Donnarumma could potentially leave Milan on a free transfer in the summer. Obtaining a player of his calibre for free would be the steal of the window.
Home sweet home
The player is however keen to stay in Milan, where he is an undisputed first choice. He is ready to renew his contract and commit his future at the San Siro. As yet, there is no progress in the negotiations between his agent Mino Raiola and the Milan management.
The superagent is a pain to deal with and has already caused trouble regarding Paul Pogba this season. (h/t Sky Sports)
