Manchester United appoint new technical and football directors
According to the club’s official site, Manchester United have promoted John Murtough to Football Director and Darren Fletcher to Technical Director.
The two new roles have been filled with the intention to further strengthen the club’s football operations.
Murtough will have overall control over the operations and strategy across all football functions, reinforcing the strong foundations that are already in place at the club.
The United veteran had previously worked closely with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the rest of the football staff to create the structures, processes and culture to deliver sustained success on the pitch. This includes successful overhauls of the club’s Academy and recruitment departments.
As Football Director, he will work on a day-to-day basis with Solskjaer to coordinate the recruitment and other strategies required to ensure that the first-team has the requisite support it needs.
Matt Judge who is now the director of football negotiations will also report to Murtough.
Old face, new role
As technical director, Fletcher could now be set to have a greater say in how football is played at the club. A United veteran of many years, Ed Woodward is sure that the Scot will be up to the task.
“I am delighted that John and Darren have accepted these roles and I look forward to the contribution they will make, together with Ole and the rest of the staff, as we build toward future success.”
Fletcher himself is glad to take on the new role and believes the club is on the right track to bring back glory to the Theatre of Dreams.
“It’s fantastic to see that all the staff here are driving Manchester United forward towards a new era of success.”
