Pau Torres emerges as target for Manchester United
According to Eurosport (h/t The Sun), Manchester United could turn their attention to Pau Torres as they continue their search for a central defender. The Red Devils were looking at Jules Kounde but could switch to Torres because of his lower release clause.
Over the last few months, several centre-backs have emerged on Manchester United’s radar and the general feeling is that the club are looking at a long-term partner for Harry Maguire. One of the targets, Dayot Upamecano already joined Bayern Munich. That left them turning to Jules Kounde of Sevilla.
It was even said that the Red Devils were ready to make a move for Kounde but recent reports have suggested that the club could look at Pau Torres as a more ‘realistic option’. The 24-year-old Spaniard has been linked to several other clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea on previous occasions.
A £43m release clause exists in Torres’ contract which makes the Villarreal star a viable option for United. That amount has been said to be the max United are willing to pay for a new centre-back next season (h/t The Sun).

There is clearly a need for another new centre-back to partner Maguire with Lindelof underwhelming and Eric Bailly being injury prone. Pau Torres could represent a significant and useful bit of investment for them in that regard.
