Jadon Sancho transfer boost for Manchester United

According to Handelsblatt (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United have received a boost in their efforts to sign Jadon Sancho. Borussia Dortmund are likely to have eased their stance on selling the star winger given their CEO’s comments on the financial state of the club.

Hans-Joachim Watzke has not ruled out the possibility of player sales due to the financial impact of the pandemic. That does bode well for Manchester United who have been after Sancho for a while now.

Speaking to Handelsblatt, Watzke has not ruled out any measure during the pandemic to keep the club’s finances stable. (h/t Daily Mail)

“In the midst of a pandemic, I no longer rule anything out. But it is not necessarily aspired to. Above all, there is the financial balance: that we have a strong team on the field and are economically stable at the same time. Asking banks for credit lines at the drop of a hat just to avoid selling a player will not be our way.’

Manchester United chased Sancho through most of the last summer but fell short of Dortmund’s £108m valuation. However, they were reported to have made a last-ditch bid of £90m but had to fall back ultimately.

They have still maintained their interest in the Englishman with a wide right player needed at the club. It is believed that Sancho could now be available for around £88m, something more in range for United and we could see them go after the 20-year-old again next summer.
