Manchester United sent scouts to watch Sevilla star Jules Kounde last week
According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Manchester United appear to be pursuing Sevilla star Jules Kounde actively.
The Red Devils are keen to bring in a new centre-back in the summer. While skipper Harry Maguire’s place in the backline is more or less guaranteed, the hunt for his partner goes on.
The Red Devils are watching the 22-year-old actively. The club’s scouts were in attendance at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan last week as Sevilla took on Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League.
Kounde played the complete 90 minutes but could not prevent his side from losing 2-3. Another United target, Erling Haaland was the hero of the night as he scored twice for Dortmund.
The Sevilla star is not the only defender United are keeping tabs on. RB Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konate too is being considered as an option heading into the summer. Another Frenchman, Konate has a relatively cheap release clause of €45m and will be cheaper than Konate.
Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic too has been heavily linked with United of late. While the 23-year-old’s name has been proposed, he is not being sought after actively.
Home comforts!
Closer to home, it remains to be seen if the Red Devils will revisit their interest in Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings. The Englishman is well acquainted with the Premier League and will not need a bedding-in period to get up to speed.
The Villa ace was on the club’s radar last summer, but the financial constraints placed by the coronavirus pandemic saw us prioritize other signings.
