Daniel James credits hard work as the reason for his Manchester United resurgence
Speaking to MUTV (h/t Manutd.com) following the 3-1 win over Newcastle United, Daniel James has revealed the secret behind his recent resurgence at Manchester United.
The Welsh winger started the season as a backup player struggling to display his best. In fact, he has struggled to impress since enjoying a sensational first couple of months at the club.
But the tide appears to be turning after he scored the sixth goal in his last nine games for the club. To put it into context, it is more than what he scored in his previous 50 appearances for United. (h/t Transfermarkt)
“I’ve just been working on the training ground as hard as I can.”
Taking the opportunity!
James to his credit did not let adversity get to him and applied himself in training to get back to his best. All those hours put in appear to be paying off as he continues to make the most of it on the pitch.
“I’ve just been working as hard as I can and doing everything I can when I do play and, yeah, it was nice to get minutes Thursday and again today. So I’ve got to just keep working on that.”
It is easy for a player to feel sorry for himself once the tide goes against him. The fact that James has gone on to prove himself showcases his competent mentality. He admits Solskjaer told him that opportunities would come soon. To James’ credit, he was not found wanting.
“When you’re not playing as much, it’s not a time to relax and just think ‘I’m not going to play’. It’s a time to learn, reflect on things to say why you’re not playing and just keep working hard in training.”
Rediscovering himself!
James admitted that he had lost his way a little and that his performances were suffering as a result. He was keen to rectify it and also thanked the coaching staff for helping him do just that.
With the season reaching its business end, James’ resurgence could not have been timed better. A pacy player, he has now added other weapons to his game that would further amplify his speed. He could yet be set to play a decisive role for us this season.
