Manchester United to ramp up efforts to land Ibrahima Konate
According to German publication Sport Bild, Manchester United are set to ramp up efforts to land RB Leipzig star Ibrahima Konate.
The 21-year-old formed the bedrock of Julian Nagelsmann’s defence alongside international compatriot Dayot Upamecano. United were also keen on the Les Bleus star who is now on his way to Bayern Munich next summer.
According to the report, losing out on Upamecano has now seen United ramp up their efforts to land Konate. While the latter was supposed to be the former’s replacement at Leipzig, his future at the club is also far from assured.
Konate has a relatively cheap release clause of €45m and has attracted attention from a number of top sides, United amongst them. Both Liverpool and Chelsea are also keen on the 21-year-old and could challenge us for his signing.
The Red Devils have been monitoring the player for some time now. We were linked with him last summer and also as recently as December where we sent out feelers to the player regarding a switch.
With Upamecano gone and a number of teams in need of a defender, Konate could be hot property come the summer. United, for their part, will do well to land him, more so given his low release clause that offers value for money.
A risk worth taking!
Konate came through the youth ranks at PSG and spent time at FC Sochaux before joining RB Leipzig in the summer of 2017. Since then, the Frenchman has developed into a key member of the German outfit, making 87 appearances so far.
One issue could prove to be his injury record. He missed a number of games last season and has also been sidelined quite a few times this season as well. However, given his potential, it is a risk worth taking.

Konate is not very dissimilar from Upamecano and offers a number of similar traits. He is a better threat in the air and can aid us at both ends of the pitch. Whether we will eventually land him or not remains to be seen.
