Manchester United to take part in three-way auction for Erling Haaland
According to Italian publication Calciomercato, Manchester United are set to take part in a summer auction for Erling Haaland.
The Borussia Dortmund star is one of the hottest young commodities in world football. Still just 21, he is cementing himself as one of the best strikers in world football.
Having broken through at RB Salzburg, he has exploded onto the scene at Dortmund. His 41 goals and 10 assists in just 42 games for the German side make for mind-numbingly impressive reading. (h/t Transfermarkt)
A man in demand!
We will, however, face competition from both Manchester City and Real Madrid in attempts to land the player this summer. Pep Guardiola’s side is on the lookout for a replacement for Sergio Aguero, while Real also seek the same but for Karim Benzema.
While the player does have a relatively modest €75m release clause, it will do us little help this summer. The clause only comes into effect at the end of the 2021/22 season.
The situation represents a win-win for Dortmund. They could hold onto the player for another year or cash in now when the iron is hot. A bidding war will help ease their financial concerns.
Ready for a change of scenery?
Speaking after the match against Sevilla, Haaland for his part teased a potential switch. With Liverpool and Chelsea also linked with him, our attempts to land him will not be easy. (h/t Mirror)
Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani are United’s primary choices upfront. The former is going through a rough patch while the latter is not a long-term option. Bringing in Haaland would definitely get us the infallible scorer we have been seeking.
