Fabrizio Romano dismisses claims that Manchester United are in talks for Dayot Upamecano
Manchester United are keen to bring in a defender in the summer and RB Leipzig ace Dayot Upamecano is one of the players linked with a move to Old Trafford.
The French ace is a rising star and is already one of the best players in his position in the league. Still just 22, he forms the bedrock of Julian Nagelsmann’s Leipzig rear guard.
While United are aware of and acknowledge the player’s ability, they are yet to hold any advanced talks to secure his signature. According to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, a deal is unlikely as things stand now.
Available for a relatively cheap £38million in the summer, the Frenchman represents excellent value for money.
European champions Bayern Munich are willing to meet the clause and are set to face competition from Chelsea and Liverpool. The Blues are keen to revamp their defence in the summer while Liverpool’s injuries have left them with no choice.
The trio’s hopes of landing Upamecano will be boosted following PSG’s dwindling interest. The French champions were also in the fray for the youngster but have now cooled their interest.
Same club, different player
While United may not be pursuing Upamecano aggressively, they could still turn to Leipzig to provide them with the centre-back they crave for.
The Red Devils are interested in Upamecano’s partner Ibrahima Konate, who has been impressive in his own right. However, we will have to contend with competition from Liverpool and Chelsea once again. (h/t Daily Mail)

Konate is not yet at the same level as Upamecano. However, his stats are not too different from his teammate’s and is a better option in the air.
United will do well to steal away the 21-year-old while the eyes of the world are affixed on his more illustrious compatriot.
