Manchester United receive major boost in pursuit of Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane
A report by Spanish outlet Marca (h/t Irish Mirror) states that Manchester United are one of the clubs interested in signing defender Raphael Varane, who could be sold in the summer by Real Madrid.
Los Galacticos’ priority would be to have the Frenchman sign a new deal at the club. Varane’s contract will expire this summer if he does not renew his deal at Santiago Bernabeu.
Madrid captain Sergio Ramos could be on his way out of the club in the near future. This is a major reason why Madrid are eager to tie the 27-year-old to a new deal at the club.
However, the report adds that Madrid would be willing to cash in on Varane in the summer if he makes it clear that he will not be signing a new deal. They would look for a fee close to €50million for the centre-back.
A big-name signing on the way?
And Manchester United are one of the clubs interested in his services, with their interest in the player dating as far back as 2019. They are, however, not the only clubs after the former Lens man.
Serie A champions Juventus, Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, and Premier League rivals Chelsea have also been linked with a move for the World Cup winner.
Varane came close to leaving Madrid in 2019, with PSG and United both waiting on the sidelines to sign him. He stayed because of Zinedine Zidane’s return, but that might not be enough this time. (h/t Irish Mirror)
