Manchester United boost as Juventus want Cristiano Ronaldo to take a pay cut
According to Il Messaggero (h/t Express), Manchester United have been handed a boost as Juventus want Cristiano Ronaldo to take a pay cut.
The Portuguese talisman joined the Old Lady in 2018 and signed a 4-year deal. However, with his contract running down, the Serie A giants want him to sign an extension.
Ronaldo has been in tremendous form, scoring goals for fun. He has 23 goals and 3 assists in all competitions this season so far. Juventus are right in the mix to win the Serie A title despite being placed 3rd in the table right now.
Ronaldo, as expected, is leading the race for the Golden Boot this season, with 16 league goals.
Ever since Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United for Real Madrid, he has been linked with a return to Old Trafford. It’s no different now as the report claims Manchester United could benefit from Juventus’ latest decision.
The veteran attacker currently pockets £27million per year in Italy. Juventus feel it would be too much for them to bear going forward.
Manchester United have been linked with a swap deal involving Paul Pogba and Cristiano Ronaldo. However, signing the Portuguese star wouldn’t be a smart move for us after all, never mind exchanging Pogba for him.
Ronaldo, for all his quality and achievements, is in the final leg of his career. He would be too expensive an asset to have as it could become difficult for us to offload him a few years down the line.
There is no resale value whatsoever and we are better off investing money on a young and established player.

Moreover, Paul Pogba is a valuable player to lose. If he can keep performing on the pitch and keep things quiet off the field, there is no reason why we should let him go.
All in all, this is a move we can avoid. Ed Woodward would be better off not looking at this as a transfer boost.
