Manchester United vs Everton: Team News, Predicted line-up, Formations and more

Manchester United take on Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton in the Premier League tonight.

A win will see us stay within touching distance of Manchester City, who currently have a three-point lead over us with a game in hand. Anything short of three points will be a massive blow for our title aspirations.

United dropped points in two of their last three games. However, we returned to top form with a 9-0 rollicking of Southampton last weekend.

Everton will, however, present a much more difficult challenge than an injury-hit Saints side that was down to nine men.

United have beaten the Toffees twice this season, once in the reverse fixture at Goodison Park and then in the Carabao Cup. They can hopefully make it a hat-trick of wins at Old Trafford.

Team News

Phil Jones is ruled out while Edinson Cavani is a doubt. The Uruguayan admitted that he is fine but could start on the bench.

Odion Ighalo is on his way to Saudi Arabian side Al-Shabab after his loan at Manchester United expired last week.

Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw were both afforded a rest against Southampton and should be up for the fixture. Skipper Harry Maguire and the United full-backs will need to be at their best to not only combat Dominic Calvert-Lewis in the air but also cut out the crosses.

Manchester United Predicted XI

David de Gea (GK)

Self-explanatory. The Spaniard is United’s first-choice keeper and is extremely unlikely to be dropped for such a crucial clash.

Luke Shaw (LB)

The 25-year-old is enjoying a massive resurgence and has emerged as a force down the left. He was rested in the second half against Southampton and should be raring to go.

Harry Maguire (CB)

The United skipper, Maguire is a shoo-in when fit.

Victor Lindelof (CB)

The Swede has not enjoyed the best of seasons and has also suffered from injuries. Will do well to leave the aerial duels with Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Maguire.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (RB)

United’s first-choice right-back, the Englishman opened the scoring against Southampton. Given the lack of competition he has, he is an automatic starter when fit.

Scott McTominay (CM)

Ran the midfield against Southampton and is an engine in the middle of the park. Moreover, his good understanding with Fred will help neutralize Everton’s physicality.

Fred (CM)

The Brazilian has quietly established himself as a key yet consistent player. Will be called upon to do more of the same against the Toffees.

Marcus Rashford (LW)

United’s second top scorer, Rashford is arguably our best player cutting in. His pace and directness will offer the Red Devils an excellent route to goal.

Bruno Fernandes (AM)

The Portuguese star is undroppable and is enjoying another fine season. Could be the subject of a few rough tackles by an overzealous Everton midfield. He could however hold the key to unlocking the Toffees defence.

Paul Pogba (RW)

The Frenchman was rested last week and was United’s player of the month for January. Should be expected to return to the line-up this weekend.

Anthony Martial (ST)

The United No.9 discovered his goalscoring shoes against Southampton. With his confidence on the rise, he should be expected to lead the line, especially given Edinson Cavani’s ankle knock.

Formation (4-2-3-1)

A number of United stars are in top form and Solskjaer has done well to ensure his players are rotated when necessary. The Red Devils should have enought in their pocket to see out Everton.
