Manchester United and Liverpool to battle it out for Sporting star Pedro Goncalves
According to Portuguese publication Record via Fussball Transfers, Manchester United are set to battle it out with Liverpool for Pedro Goncalves.
The 22-year-old attacker is enjoying an exceptionally prolific season. He has so far made 18 appearances, scoring 12 goals and making three assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)
A right-winger, Goncalves is also versatile enough to play in central midfield. His ability to pick out a pass and also move into channels makes him a tough player to mark.
Both United and Liverpool have approached Sporting regarding their player and have asked them to name the asking price. Pedro has experience of life in England having spent two years at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
During that time, he made just a solitary appearance and was largely with the Under-23s. He returned to Portugal with Famalicao in 2019 before moving to Sporting a year later.
United could do with a player who can play on the right-wing. As of now, Daniel James is our only specialist senior right-winger.
A player of immense potential, Goncalves could prove to be an extremely shrewd signing. At 22, the midfielder has a long way to go in his career and could develop into something special.

With the January transfer window set to close, there may not be enough time to get a deal through for Goncalves this month.
United will do well to ensure they return for him in the summer. A strong second half to the season will only alert more teams to his potential.
