Manchester United make a deadline day move for Roma striker AS Roma
According to Italian publication Corriere Dello Sport (h/t The Express), Manchester United have a deadline day push to land AS Roma striker Edin Dzeko.
The 34-year-old has fallen out of favour with Roma boss Paulo Fonseca and is looking to leave the club. He could potentially join United as a replacement for Odion Ighalo.
Dzeko has Premier League experience, having played for our local rivals Manchester City. He played 189 times for them, scoring 72 goals and assisting 39. (h/t Transfermarkt)
United appear to have made a late move to land the ageing yet potent striker. The move appears to be the brainchild of the player’s agent Alessandro Lucci.
Given that there are just hours left before the window closes, any deal could be a close-run thing.
United have made it a habit of landing ageing strikers in recent windows. Ighalo was signed on loan last January before Edinson Cavani arrived on summer deadline day last year.
Cavani, to his credit, has impressed and looks to be a very shrewd acquisition. With Anthony Martial firing blanks, maybe bringing in a striker will aid us in our title push.
Dzeko, at best, will be a short-term option. However, he will add depth in the striking department going into the second half of the season.

At 34, Dzeko is one of the veterans of the game today. The prospect of him returning to England with United would have been unthinkable even weeks ago.
However, United will need all the help they can to make the most of what has been an unlikely title charge. Bringing in Dzeko on a short-term deal would not be the worst option.
