Manchester United interested in Ibrahima Konate with Liverpool and Tottenham keen
According to reputed journalist, Christian Falk on Twitter Manchester United are interested in RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate, who is also on the radars of Liverpool and Tottenham.
The 21-year-old centre-back came through the youth ranks at PSG and spent time at FC Sochaux before joining RB Leipzig in the summer of 2017. Since then, the Frenchman has gradually grown into a key member of the German outfit, making 86 appearances so far.
The past season was a difficult one for Konate as he spent most of it out injured. And while he started this term strongly, he has once again been hit with an injury, restricting him to just 12 appearances in all competitions.
Nonetheless, his stock in European football remains high as ever, as the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham are all interested in him, as claimed by Falk.
The Red Devils need a reliable, long-term defensive partner for club captain Harry Maguire. While Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly have impressed in bursts this season, both have been struggling with injury problems.
And with the likes of Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo not in the manager’s plans, adding more quality and cover to the defensive department in the summer makes a lot of sense. This has seen us get linked with RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano.
As per Falk though, Manchester United are also keeping tabs on Upamecano’s partner, Konate. The 21-year-old is said to have a release clause of €40m, which will kick in this summer.

No doubt that Konate is a talented, young defender. But this early in his career, the 21-year-old has had several serious injury problems. So he might turn out to be a risky investment for Manchester United.
