Alan Shearer’s reason for Luke Shaw resurgence at Manchester United
According to Manchester Evening News, Alan Shearer suggested that Luke Shaw might be benefitting at Manchester United with no fans inside the stadium.
Shaw joined United in 2014 from Southampton. However, he failed to cement his place in the team in the first few seasons. His situation was also worsened by recurring injuries.
Nevertheless, he has found form and consistency in the past few seasons, and especially during this campaign. Shaw has already featured in 15 Premier League games at left-back.
This is an impressive number for the 25-year-old considering the club bought highly-rated Alex Telles at left-back this very summer. Shaw’s good form has meant the Brazilian has played in just 6 league games this season.
Shaw’s resurgence has come at the right time
His form has particularly picked up after ‘Project Restart’. The Covid-19 pandemic meant there would be no fans in the stadium for the foreseeable future.
And Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer believes he is one of those players who is thriving from this change. Talking to Gary Linekar and Ian Wright at Old Trafford, Shearer said:
“There are some players who thrive on crowds and who love the pressure. I just look at some personalities and individuals that will benefit from having no crowds. People who don’t like crowds having a go
at them when things aren’t going well.”
Shaw played the full 90 minutes in the 3-2 FA Cup win against Liverpool on Sunday. This was his 22nd appearance for this season before even reaching February. (h/t Transfermarkt)

This is certainly a good sign for both the player and the manager. Shaw has finally achieved a consistent run of games with the first-team, and Solskjaer has two very good left-backs to choose from.
