Manchester United working behind the scenes to win the race for Palmeiras wide-man Gabriel Veron
A report by Spanish outlet Sport (h/t Daily Star) states that Manchester United have “moved behind the scenes” to beat a host of clubs to the signature of Palmeiras winger Gabriel Veron.
Veron has burst onto the scene this season at Brazilian club Palmeiras. He has already played in 34 senior games for them despite being just 18 years of age.
In that duration, the youngster has racked up 10 goals and 5 assists. Moreover, he is versatile as he can play anywhere across the front line. (h/t transfermarkt)
The report states that Barcelona, Juventus, and Manchester City are also keen on Veron. Barcelona are actually deemed to be in control of the situation, but it could change in the future.
The Catalan club is scheduled to have a presidential election. This could lead to the new board deciding that the interest in the Brazilian is not worth it. His release clause is, after all, £53million.
Palmeiras would, however, consider a bid that would be one-third of his release clause. An £18million bid might be enough to force Palmeiras into letting the youngster leave.
How many more right-wingers?
United are waiting in the tall grass to pounce on any changes in Barcelona’s stance, and would be in the driving seat if any opportunity arises. (h/t Daily Star)
United have only recently signed two young right-wingers. The 19-year-old Facundo Pellistri joined the club in the summer from Penarol.
And more famously, 18-year-old Ivorian winger Amad Diallo finally sealed his move to Old Trafford this month. In such a situation, signing Veron might mean either of these two youngsters losing out on first-team chances.
