Sheffield United to ramp up efforts to land Manchester United star Jese Lingard
According to The Star, Sheffield United are keen on bringing in an attacking midfielder with Manchester United star Jesse Lingard a target.
However, whether a deal can be completed remains to be seen. Speaking after the match against Tottenham Hotspur, Chris Wilder admitted that no incomings are close.
The Blades are currently bottom of the Premier League and face a fight on their hands to escape relegation.
Lingard has endured a difficult season where he has been a bit-part player at best. A combination of injuries, personal problems and a loss of form have all contributed to Lingard’s fall from grace.
The 28-year-old has made just three appearances for the club this season. He is yet to play a single minute in the league this campaign. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Sheffield remains confident that they can provide Lingard with the opportunity to relaunch his career. With their situation looking hopeless, Lingard can step up and prove himself to be a hero.
The player’s representatives are also open to a switch to Bramall Lane. They believe such a move will not prevent the player from making a high-profile move in the future. (h/t The Star)
Interest in Lingard has also come from a number of other domestic sides. The likes of Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion, Celtic, and Rangers are all keen on the 28-year-old. (h/t Birmingham Mail)
He has also attracted attention from continental sides such as Nice and Real Sociedad.

Lingard scored just four goals in 40 appearances for United last season. A far from impressive statistic. His performances have also seen him fall out of favour at the international level.
A starter for England in the 2018 World Cup, he has also not featured for the Three Lions since June 2019. A change of scenery could do him good.
