Gary Neville tells Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to make three game-changing transfers
According to Mirror (h/t Express), Gary Neville has gone on to suggest that Manchester United could part ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer if they don’t beat Liverpool to the title next season.
The Norwegian has had both supporters and detractors since he took over from Jose Mourinho in 2018. While United are yet to win a trophy under him, there has been progress on the pitch.
Currently top of the Premier League, United travel to Anfield to take on defending champions Liverpool. A win will not just end Jurgen Klopp’s proud home streak but also put us six points clear at the summit.
“At the end of next season, he will have had three-and-a-half years at the club. That’s enough time.”
“Ole has to eventually win the Premier League title – or he won’t live as Manchester United’s manager for a long time.”
Neville compared Solskjaer’s achievements to that of Jurgen Klopp. The German took Liverpool to three major finals by the end of his second full season and to their only Premier League title so far.
He believes Solskjaer should close the gap to the top before challenging for the title next season.
Neville believes the club will do well to strengthen three key areas in the January transfer window. According to him, United needs to bring in new players at centre-back, right-wing, and a striker.
“If they had just got a top centre-back and a top right winger then it would be even better.”
The three areas Neville wants to be reinforced!
As things stand, Daniel James and now Amad Diallo are the only two specialist right-wingers in the Red Devils squad. The club failed to land Jadon Sancho in the summer and it remains to be seen if we will return for him in the future.
While Edinson Cavani has given us depth upfront, the Uruguayan is not a long-term option. Sooner or later, the club will need to bring in another striker.
As far as a defender is concerned, we may already have the one we seek at the club. Eric Bailly has formed a formidable partnership with Harry Maguire in the past few weeks. They now have the remainder of the season to show what they are capable of.

Neville is not wrong in the assertion that Solskjaer will have to win trophies sooner rather than later. The Norwegian has a good squad at his disposal that has proved itself capable of holding its own.
All the stability and promise he has brought will count for naught if not backed by success. United is currently in an excellent position to challenge for the title. The clamor for it will only increase if we beat Liverpool tonight.
