Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explains how Manchester United have avoided injury troubles this season
Speaking in an interview (h/t Manchester Evening News), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explained that following Covid-19 protocols and appointing the right personnel are the reasons why Manchester United have an improved injury record this season.
The Red Devils had a terrible fitness record during the first half of last season. The club lost Paul Pogba, Eric Bailly, Anthony Martial, and Luke Shaw to injuries in quick succession.
Compared to that, the team has done really well this season. Phil Jones is the only United player sidelined through injury going into the Premier League game against Burnley.
And the Norwegian believes that this is partly down to the players following Covid-19 protocols, as well as having more time to rest mentally and physically due to the recurring lockdowns.
“You can see teams being really badly hit at times [by Covid-19]. Our boys have done well in that regard, we’ve not really lost many.”
An all-around effort
The Norwegian said that players do not have a lot of places to go to now due to the lockdown, and joked that hopefully, they could learn to live life like for the future too. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
Solskjaer also mentioned that the fitness staff should be given credit too. The former Cardiff City boss said that he is happy with the club’s appointments in that department.
United have the chance to pull three points clear at the top of the Premier League tonight. A win against Burnley would see us leapfrog Liverpool at the league summit.
