Axel Tuanzebe eyes more game time after impressing against Watford

Speaking to the club’s official website, Manchester United youngster Axel Tuanzebe has claimed that he hopes to play more regularly after impressing against Watford.

The 23-year-old is a product of the United youth academy. Despite having made his first-team debut in 2017, Tuanzebe hasn’t been able to carve out a regular spot for himself in the side.

Tuanzebe had a couple of impressive loan stints away at Aston Villa. But having returned in the summer of 2019, the 23-year-old has struggled with injuries, which has hampered his development.

The ongoing season has seen him battle fitness issues again, due to which he has made just 10 appearances in all competitions. However, after putting up an impressive performance at the weekend, the defender is hoping to kick on and play more regularly.

“I would obviously love to get more minutes, so I can constantly keep my performances up. Obviously, the team are doing well so the only way in is really to force myself in with the chances that I do get.

“Sometimes it [the opportunity] can just come out of the blue. But the main thing is that we kept a clean sheet and we won the game.”

Tuanzebe put in a solid display against the Hornets, with a goalmouth clearance in the first half being a particular highlight.

Having played a part in helping the team secure a clean sheet, Tuanzebe could be in line to start on Tuesday when United face Burnley in the Premier League.

Eric Bailly picked up an injury in the Watford game, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that Victor Lindelof was also injured. So, Tuanzebe could be set to partner Harry Maguire at the heart of the United defence again.
