Jurgen Klopp takes a swipe at Manchester United following Liverpool loss
According to Sky Sports, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp took a jab at Manchester United following his side’s 1-0 loss to Southampton.
The Merseysiders fell to their second defeat of the season, handing United the advantage in the title race. Though still top, the Red Devils could leapfrog them if they win their game in hand.
Klopp’s fury was unleashed after Sadio Mane was fouled twice in the Southampton box, only for the officials to deign it not a foul. He believes it is in stark contrast to the decisions that go in United’s favour.
“I heard now that Manchester United had more penalties in two years than me in five-and-a-half years. I have no idea if that’s my fault or… don’t know how that can happen.”
United have been awarded 33 penalties since the beginning of last season. An extraordinary number for any side.
However, there is no reason why we would need to fret given the match officials believe our players were fouled in the penalty area.
It is true that we have benefitted from soft decisions at times. But so has every other team. At the end of the day, it is up to the referee to judge an incident as he sees fit.
The incidents involving Sadio Mane against both Southampton and Newcastle United have strong cases to be called fouls. In fact, we would be chuffed if we were at the receiving end of such decisions.
However, you don’t see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer calling out rival managers for decisions that didn’t go in his team’s favour.

Having dropped seven points from the last nine games, Klopp’s frustration is understandable. However, his side’s poor form has nothing to do with United’s fortune or results.
