Manchester United target Jadon Sancho expected a summer transfer, claims Dortmund CEO
Speaking to German magazine Kicker, as reported by the MEN, Borussia Dortmund CEO Hanz-Joachim Watzke has revealed that Manchester United target Jadon Sancho expected a summer move away from the club.
The 20-year-old England international was heavily linked with a transfer to Manchester United all throughout the summer. However, a move failed to materialise as Dortmund did not waiver from their €120m asking price, which Manchester United were unwilling to pay.
Having stayed put in Germany, Sancho has found it hard to hit the heights of the last season when he had scored and assisted 17 goals apiece in 32 Bundesliga appearances.
In comparison, Sancho has just one goal in 12 league games this term, with that goal coming this past weekend. He has also assisted only five goals this season. (h/t Transfermarkt)
And Watzke has attributed this dip in form to the fact that Sancho expected to leave Dortmund in the summer and had prepared himself mentally for an exit.
“Subconsciously, Jadon had probably already prepared a little for a change. I think he had at least thought so much about it that he lost his ease.”
However, the Dormtund chief insisted that Sancho remains a generational talent and will bounce back soon, after impressing in the weekend game.
“I think he needs two or three success stories in a row, then things will quickly improve again. He is still one of the greatest talents there is.”
