Manchester United in touch with the representatives of Ousmane Dembele
According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo (h/t Daily Star), the representatives of Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele are in touch with Manchester United ahead of the January transfer window.
The Red Devils were linked with a move for the Frenchman in the summer. He was considered as an alternative to our primary transfer target, Jadon Sancho. Ultimately, neither would make it to Old Trafford.
Dembele has found opportunities hard to come by this season. Ronald Koeman has preferred to use Ansu Fati when fit, affording just 577 minutes of action for the Frenchman.
Despite his limited game time, Dembele has managed to score four goals and two assists across 12 appearances. It translates to an impressive average of one goal contribution every 96 minutes. (h/t Transfermarkt)
A major hurdle Dembele has been unable to overcome at Barcelona is injuries. The 23-year-old made just nine appearances last season and is now injured once again.
In his three years at Barcelona, Dembele has made 86 appearances for the Catalans across all competitions. At the same time, he has missed 85 games due to injuries.
With the January transfer window around the corner, the winger has attracted attention from the Premier League including United.
Barcelona are currently in talks to extend the player’s contract beyond 2022. This has not stopped Dembele’s agent from talking to other clubs.
With his current deal expiring in 2022, Barcelona are at the risk of losing their £117million signing for free.
