Marcus Rashford took advantage of Wolves’ fatigue to win the game for Manchester United
Marcus Rashford won the game for Manchester United in stoppage time after a hard-fought match against Wolves.
It is said that one makes his own luck and Rashford clearly did that on the night. According to Amazon Prime Video (h/t MEN), speaking after the match, Rashford admits he looked to exploit a key weakness in the Wolves backline.
Wolves defender Rayan Aït-Nouri was suffering from cramp and struggling as a result. An observant Rashford noticed it and ensured he used it to his advantage.
“The full-back had cramp a few minutes before so I just had it in my head I wanted to go at him and make him chop and turn and just see if I could make something happen and thankfully in the end we got a deflection.”
The match was a cagey affair and looked to be heading to another draw. While it may not have been our best performance, what matters is the three points on the board.
“We will take what we can get and take the three points and move on.”
Rashford admitted that Wolves put up a good fight. The fact that United could dig deep to get the result they need shows the mental strength in the current squad.
The win took us to within two points of Liverpool who play later tonight. The stage appears to be set for a showdown at Anfield on January 17.
