A report by local Argentine outlet El Intrasigente (h/t Manchester Evening News) has linked Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo with a move to Boca Juniors.

Rojo will reportedly be available for a transfer fee of somewhere around $5million.

Marcos Rojo started his youth career in his home country with Club Estudiantes de La Plata. He spent close to 11 years with the club before moving to Russia in January 2011.

Manchester United snapped him up in the summer of 2014 after he played a part in Argentina’s impressive run to the 2014 FIFA World Cup final.

Since then, the Argentine has failed to cement his position at the club. Having made just 76 league appearances during his five-and-a-half-year stay at the club, United loaned him in January 2020.

Rojo spent 6 months at his boyhood club Estudiantes in Argentina and returned to Old Trafford this summer after having made just 1 appearance.

On his way out?

In the past month or so, several reports have linked with an exit in January. Most recently, Premier League clubs Newcastle United and Sheffield United have shown interest in signing him on a loan deal. (h/t Mirror)

He has fallen down in the United pecking order as well. A string of injuries has blighted his progress at United in recent years as he is yet to make a single appearance for the club this season.

With a permanent move to Boca Juniors now being reported, it seems that United will have two options. However, Rojo has been out of the first-team picture for an incredibly long time.

On top of that, Solskjaer seems to have a set centre-back pairing of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof. Amidst this, a permanent sale of Rojo could prove to be a good option for United.

Rojo is in the last 6 months of his contract, and United have an option to extend it by one more year. (h/t Mirror)
