Axel Tuanzebe gives his thoughts on being deployed in a new position against Everton
Talking to the club media after Manchester United’s win on Wednesday (h/t Manchester Evening News), Axel Tuanzebe said that he enjoyed the attacking freedom that he got when playing as a right-back against Everton.
Manchester United fielded a strong XI against Everton in the Carabao Cup quarter-final this week. However, they had a problem on their hands before the game, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka out injured.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer went with Axel Tuanzebe on the right flank, and the English defender, who is a centre-back by trade, did not disappoint. United came away with a 2-0 victory courtesy of two late goals.
And Axel Tuanzebe said after the match that he enjoyed playing down the right-hand side in a much more attacking role.
“It’s good to get involved going forward. As a kid you always play football to always get forward and to have that little bit more freedom today was good.”
Eyes on the Prize
Tuanzebe also said that he “feels good” and is now focused on staying fit during the busy Christmas period.
The Red Devils are now up against Manchester City in the semi-final. City, who won the League Cup in 2020, defeated United over two legs in the same stage of the competition to make last season’s final.
However, Tuanzebe seems confident about United’s chances this time. He says that the club want to win some silverware, especially after their Champions League exit earlier this month.
The 23-year-old also adds that United know what to expect from City, and will be “prepared for them”.
“It’s been a couple of years since we’ve won anything and we want to win something this year.”

Manchester United are now two matches away from lifting their first piece of silverware since May 2017, when they won the UEFA Europa League under Jose Mourinho.
Unlike last year, the semi-final of the League Cup will be decided in a one-off tie. United made the semi-final all 3 cup competitions they participated in last season but ended up losing on all occasions.
