Burnley are the latest club to show interest in Phil Jones

A report by Daily Star claims that Burnley have shown interest in signing Phil Jones from Manchester United.

Burnley have been monitoring the former Blackburn Rovers centre-back’s situation at Old Trafford since the summer this year.

However, the Clarets are said to be interested in a move only if their centre-back James Tarkowski is sold. Tarkowski has become one of Burnley’s most important players and Phil Jones can be a replacement for him if he leaves Turf Moor.

Burnley are also not the only Premier League club interested in securing a deal for Jones. West Bromwich Albion have also expressed an intent to sign him on a loan deal.

Apart from the Baggies, Championship side Derby County are also rumoured to be after Jones. Both West Brom and Derby are interested in a loan deal for the player. (h/t Daily Star)

The loan deal becomes even more lucrative considering Manchester United are reportedly willing to pay a major portion of the 28-year-old’s £120,000-a-week wage if he leaves on loan.

Phil Jones has been recovering from a knee injury, which has been the reason behind him not playing even a single minute for the Red Devils this season.

Despite the unfortunate injury, Jones has also seen himself go down the pecking order in recent times. The Englishman made only 2 league appearances for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side last season.

His last league start, ironically, came against Sean Dyche’s men in Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat to Burnley in January 2020.

A loan move for the defender should not hurt either the club or the player too much. The Red Devils might get to save some amount on their wage bill, while Jones could get some game-time.
