Manchester United set to extend the contract of Jesse Lingard
According to the Daily Star, Manchester United are set to extend the stay of Jesse Lingard at the club.
The 27-year-old has barely featured for United this season. In fact, he has made just two appearances, both of them coming in the Carabao Cup.
This has seen him linked with a move away in search of regular playtime. The likes of Celtic, Rangers and even Aston Villa have all been touted as potential destinations.
However, it would appear that he may still have a career at Old Trafford. With the player in the last year of his contract, United are planning to keep him on for another year. (h/t Daily Star)
They can do so by exercising an option in his contract to extend his deal by another year. This should help preserve the player’s value prompting a transfer bid from other clubs to seek his services in the summer. (h/t Daily Star)
Lingard started off well under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but faltered before going on to lose his spot in the team.
United were understood to be keen on offloading Lingard in the summer earlier this year. This could be seen as an indication that the club is willing to do business.
Lingard has been at the club for two decades now. Despite his versatility, it is difficult to see him become anything more than an utility backup at best.
At 27, he still has time on his side and can go on to make a name for himself elsewhere. Unfortunately, it is difficult to see him rekindle his career at Old Trafford.
