Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals concerns over mental health
According to the club’s official website, Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes isolation takes a mental toll on those not involved.
The 2020/21 campaign is unlike any other, thanks to the prevailing coronavirus pandemic and the busy schedule.
“If you’re told you’re not in the squad you’ve got to stay at home and you can’t go and see your friend or see the game with a friend.”
Fatigue is a major concern and a number of players across multiple clubs have fallen like flies while on international duty. The Norwegian has spoken in favour of increased matchday squads and says he will be relieved at having the opportunity to use five substitutes in Europe.
Unlike the Premier League, UEFA’s decision to permit five substitutions lowers the chances of players becoming fatigued. Solskjaer also can call up more players as a part of his matchday squad.
“That’s another mental welfare that we have to look after with the players, so Champions League, I like it.”
Luke Shaw is the latest United star to be injured with the defender set to miss up to six weeks. Thankfully, Alex Telles is now available and it should help us see our matches in Shaw’s absence.
Wrapped in cotton wool!
While Solskjaer may want to rotate his squad, one of the players he relies upon heavily is Bruno Fernandes. Given the difference he makes to our results, it is no surprise that the Norwegian persists with his star man.
He has hinted at giving the midfielder a breather in the games to come. Given that much of the season is still left to be played, we need our star man fit and raring to go.
“Bruno is not going to be able to play every single game, that’s for sure.”
