Manchester United ready to meet £38m release clause for Dayot Upamecano
According to The Times, Manchester United are ready to activate the £38m release clause of Dayot Upamecano next summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to reinforce his defence. Bringing in the Frenchman will give United a potential world-class star to strengthen their rearguard.
It will not be the first time that United are making a move for the 22-year-old. He was previously invited to Old Trafford for a tour of the club in 2015.
A deal was all but agreed on but United refused to meet Valenciennes’ asking price and he eventually moved to Red Bull Salzburg instead.
Upamecano extended his contract at Leipzig until 2023 with his relatively small release clause getting activated next summer. Given the player’s potential, United could sign the central defender for a song.
The new release clause that will become active next summer is £7million less than his previous one. This is set to attract a number of top-flight teams.
Solskjaer will look to trump the competition in his efforts to bring the player to the Theatre of Dreams. A dynamic and confident defender, Upamecano is a perfect fit for the counter-attacking style deployed by the Norwegian.
United have been drawn alongside RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League Group H. Solkjaer will now have the opportunity to observe the imperious Frenchman from close quarters.

Arch-rivals Liverpool have also been linked with a move for the Leipzig star. A potentially season-ending injury to Virgil van Dijk could force the Merseysiders into making a move for Upamecano.
Hopefully, we can trump them to secure one of the best young defensive players on the continent.
