Wife of Sergio Romero elaborates on her Manchester United tirade

According to MEN, the wife of Sergio Romero, Eliana Guercio has elaborated on her tirade against Manchester United on deadline day.

She took to Instagram to blast the club for the way they treated her husband in the summer window. The Argentine international is now the third-choice goalkeeper at the club and was keen to secure a move away.

He was not short of suitors either, with high-flying Everton amongst his admirers. The Toffees made a move for the player on deadline day but a move failed to materialize.

Guercio has now elaborated on her frustrations. She believes it was a stressful day for them and that Romero deserved a move away.

“Am sad because Sergio deserved the opportunity to go to another club, he has shown what he can do and he worked every day.”

She went on to add that the club have failed to treat her husband with fairness. Having joined the club in 2015, Romero is one of the finest reserve keepers in the league.

In fact, he has proven hismelf on the field whenever called upon. It is not far fetched to assume that he would be a starter at a number of clubs.

“It is a very sad day because he desired the chance to go to another club. He has worked hard every day for this, because he gives his all for United and I think that his chances of playing for United have gone down.”

Goodbye, international football?

Romero was keen to gain more game time in order to boost his chances of making the Argentina squad for the Copa America next summer.

With David de Gea and Dean Henderson ahead of him at United, he is likely to play a peripheral role. How this affects his chances for his country remains to be seen.

Guercio meanwhile thanked fans for their incredible support.

While we can understand United did not want Romero to join a direct rival, the Argentine should have been allowed to leave the club.

He has been a loyal servant for years and has stepped up when called upon. At 33, the Copa America could be one of his last major international tournaments.

It would be unjust if he misses out only because United did not do their bit for a player who has done his.
