Wayne Rooney urges Manchester United to turn attention from Jadon Sancho to Harry Kane
Writing for The Sunday Times, Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has urged the club to turn their attention to Harry Kane.
The Red Devils were heavily linked to Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho all summer. The Germans are holding firm on their £108m asking price, leaving us in limbo.
Rooney believes United should now focus their attentions to landing Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane.
“I’d rather put that £100 million towards trying to get Harry Kane.”
He believes United already have a player similar to Sancho in Mason Greenwood. Alongside Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, the youngster has formed a devastating triumvirate up top.
“Why consider paying close to £100million for someone similar to talent you’ve got already?”
Rooney believes signing a proper number 9 will give United a new dimension in their team. Adding the likes of Kane will reduce the goalscoring burden on Rashford and Martial.
“A Kane or Haaland or someone like Robert Lewandowski would give Rashford and Martial someone to play off and freedom to roam into different areas, pick the ball up and try to beat men — without the burden of always having to score.”
While he wishes for United to sign the English skipper, Rooney admits such a deal will not be easy. A hero at Tottenham Hotspur, Kane is one of the best strikers in world football today.
