Williams signed a new four-year contract with United in August. His performances last year initially convinced the club to cool their interest in securing a new left-back.
An injury to Luke Shaw saw Williams thrust into the starting line-up. His inexperience was brought to the fore as he time and again struggled to hold his own.
While he has loads of potential, for now, he is a diamond that needs polishing. A loan could give him the opportunity to do just that.
A right-footed player, Williams could be shifted to the other flank once Telles arrives. While Aaron Wan-Bissaka is the undisputed first-choice right-back, the loss of Williams will leave Solskajer short of options.
The Norwegian could however deploy Timothy Fosu-Mensah in Wan-Bissaka’s stead. The youngster started in the position for our season opener against Crystal Palace.
Another option is youngster Ethan Liard, who has impressed for the United youth sides. (h/t MEN)
