AS Roma set to ramp up interest in Manchester United star Chris Smalling

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, AS Roma are set to make a new bid for Manchester United star Chris Smalling.

The Englishman spent last season on loan at the Stadio Olimpico. Smalling impressed and was one of the best defenders in Serie A.

United want £18m for the player and are waiting for Roma to return with an improved offer. They may be about to get just that.

Romano states that Roma are ready to make a new bid to take Smalling permanently. Talks between the clubs are once again in progress and it remains to be seen if an agreement can be found.

The player too is pushing for a return to Roma. Smalling has been left frustrated by the lack of progress and continues to train alone at Carrington. (h/t Daily Mail)

The 30-year-old has been at the club for 10 years now. He believes the club owe him the right to make a move he wants.

Selling Smalling could also help raise funds to bring in Porto left-back Alex Telles. United and Porto are currently some way apart in their valuation of the Brazilian.
