Gary Neville attacks Ed Woodward for lack of Manchester United transfers
Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast (h/t The Express), the Manchester United legend attacked Ed Woodward for the club’s lack of transfer activity this summer.
The Red Devils have made just one major signing so far. While Donny van de Beek scored on his debut, signing him has only papered the cracks in the squad.
These deficiencies were laid bare at the weekend when we fell 3-1 to Crystal Palace at home.
Neville has left no stone unturned in making his feelings known. He has gone on to accuse Woodward of not doing his job properly by putting off transfers to the final two weeks of the window.
Having finished third last year, there was hope that we would strengthen in the summer and push on to bigger things.
Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho was the club’s top target this summer. Despite there being no competition for his signature, United have not been able to work out a deal.
“There is still that issue of not being able to get the players over the line quickly enough, in the building, with the squad, to get that team ready for the start of the season.”
“That is your job – to build a football team to win the league and they have not been able to do it. And they have to find a way of doing it quickly as these years are going to drag on.”
United now risk being left behind by our rivals in the race for the top. Manchester City and Liverpool have strengthened while the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have also invested considerably.
Incompetence?
Neville’s point of those in charge not doing their job is apparent when one looks at Liverpool’s business. They went from being linked to Diogo Jota to signing him in a matter of 24 hours.
While negotiations may have been taking place behind doors, the question ahs to be asked about why we cannot see deals over the line.

Those in charge of United will do well to pay heed to Neville’s comments. At this point of time, the club is being reactive rather than proactive.
It was apparent last season that we are some way off competing at the top. Not only have we not made the necessary signings to close the gap but have seen those ahead of us strengthen further.
With just over two weeks left for the window to close, there is still time for us to set things right. Better late than never.
