Luke Shaw admits Manchester United need to strengthen squad

Speaking to TV2 (h/t Sky Sports), Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has claimed that the club needs to bring in new players before the summer transfer window closes.

Manchester United began the new season with an abysmal 1-3 defeat to Crystal Palace at home this Saturday. Almost the entire team looked slow and ponderous, and it felt like they were still feeling the after-effects of the exertion from last season.

The lack of options from the bench was palpable towards the end of the last season. And Shaw, who himself struggled on Saturday upon returning to action after a two-month injury layoff, has insisted that new players need to be signed. (h/t Sky Sports)

“I think we need more players to strengthen the squad. When you look around at how other teams are strengthening their teams, then we must also do it to keep up with the others.”

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Shaw’s comments reflect the feelings of the entire Manchester United fanbase. The Red Devils have brought in just one player this summer in the form of Donny van de Beek.

At the same time, our rivals have all strengthened significantly. Even Liverpool, after a slow start, made a couple of top signings earlier this week. When all teams have improved, us going into the season without bolstering the squad would be a recipe for disaster.

Solskjaer lacks enough quality from the bench to rest and rotate his players. And given the gruelling schedule that lies ahead, the club cannot afford to go the entire season without strengthening.

Hopefully, we see some new faces coming through the doors before the transfer window closes.
