Serio Romero could return to former side Racing in Argentina
According to Argentinian outlet El Intransigente (h/t Daily Star) Manchester United star Sergio Romero could return to his former side Racing.
The 33-year-old was brought to the club by former boss Louis van Gaal in 2015. He has since turned into a solid backup goalkeeper to David de Gea.
The Argentine has now dropped to third in the pecking order following the return of Dean Henderson. The 23-year-old returns to Old Trafford after a successful two-year loan spell at Sheffield United.
The veteran goalkeeper started his professional career at Racing after coming through their youth ranks. He made his first-team debut in 2007.
He made just five appearances in total before leaving for Dutch side AZ Alkmaar later that year.
According to the report, the Argentine side are also keen to bring their former player home. Racing president Victor Blanco continues to insist that the door is always open for him to return.
Romero played for United in last season’s Europa League. He was however dropped by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the semifinals, in favour of De Gea.
The 33-year-old was left fuming by the United manager’s decision to drop him for the last-four clash against Sevilla, a match United eventually lost.
The United star had been linked with moves to fellow Premier League sides Chelsea and Aston Villa. However, interest is far from concrete now with Chelsea closing in on Edouard Mendy and Aston Villa signing Emiliano Martinez.

Romero is keen to make the Argentina squad for the 2021 Copa America. He has not represented the South American giants since 2018, and sitting on the bench will hardly help the situation. (h/t MEN)
A dependable goalkeeper, he has performed for us when called upon. Now third in the pecking order, he could find opportunities hard to come by.
He has earned the right to move on and hopefully, the club will be able to find a deal that will permit him to play regularly.
