Man United up against arch-rivals for Zambian star valued in excess of £20m

Manchester United to go up against Liverpool for Patson Daka

According to The Sun, Manchester United will go up against Liverpool for Patson Daka.

The Zambian striker has made a name for himself at RB Salzburg. He did his reputation no harm as he scored twice against Premier League champions Liverpool in a pre-season friendly earlier this week.

Daka scored 24 goals in 31 league games as Salzburg won the Austrian Bundesliga title for the seventh season in a row in 2019/20. And, United are now among a number of clubs keen on the 21-year-old. (h/t The Sun)

In many ways, Daka has thrived since the sale of Erling Braut Haaland. Another striker United were keen on.

The youngster’s contract with the Austrian giants runs till 2024. As per the report, he will be available for a price in excess of £20m.

Given his age and potential, it would be a fair fee. United could do with a striker given our dependence on the front three of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, and Mason Greenwood.

Although Odion Ighalo is a decent backup, he has failed to hit the levels he achieved in his initiial few months at the club.

United need to make haste to avoid any repetition of an earlier interest in Haaland. The club missed out on the Norwegian when he was still at Molde. The Red Devils could have signed him for £2.7m in July 2018. (h/t The Sun)

Th same happened with Moussa Dembele when he was still at Fulham. The Frenchman eventually moved to Celtic, before joining Lyon in 2018.
