Manchester United holding off on talks for Ousmane Dembele
As per the Transfer Window Podcast (h/t MEN), Manchester United are yet to start negotiations with La Liga giants Barcelona for the transfer of Ousmane Dembele.
The Frenchman has been with Barcelona for three years, having arrived as the long-term replacement for Neymar. However, he has flattered to deceive during his time in Camp Nou, with constant injuries hampering his growth.
Dembele has spent more time on the treatment tables than he has on the pitch at Barcelona. In fact, the 23-year-old featured in just nine matches this past season, scoring a solitary goal in the process. (h/t Transfermarkt)
In spite of that, Manchester United are interested in Dembele as a potential alternative for primary transfer target Jadon Sancho. The Red Devils are considering a loan move for the 23-year-old World Cup winner. (h/t MEN)
However, it is now being claimed that the club is holding off on talks with Barcelona, as they remain confident of bringing in Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. (h/t MEN)
A deal for Sancho has hit a snag over Dortmund’s transfer fee demand of £108m, while the club are also concerned over the 20-year-old’s wage expectations should a deal go through. (h/t MEN)
Nevertheless, confidence within the camp is high that a deal will be completed.

Irrespective of where we stand on the Sancho deal, signing Dembele wouldn’t be the smartest idea. The 23-year-old has been an unreliable figure at Barcelona due to his injury history.
Even when fit, the Frenchman has hardly set the stage on fire. Thus, if the pursuit of Sancho fails, we must look beyond the Barcelona forward.
