Manchester United keeping tabs on Brighton starlet Ben White
According to The Sun, Manchester United have entered the race for Brighton and Hove Albion defender Ben White.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a successful loan spell at Championship winners Leeds United in the 2019-20 campaign. His performances helped the club cope well with the absence of Swedish international Pontus Jansson, who left Leeds last summer.
In fact, his time at Elland Road has garnered the attention of a number of top clubs in the Premier League. According to the report, every top-six side has approached Brighton regarding their prized asset.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side are keen to retain the youngster and have made a £35million bid for the player. This is now expected to be rejected with Brighton holding out for £50m.
The Seagulls are not keen to sell White and hope to form a formidable partnership between him and skipper Lewis Dunk. The latter too has been a subject of intense speculation, linked with a move away.
Despite showing improved performances, United’s defence is still far from the finished product. In fact, yesterday’s defeat to Sevilla showed that we still are some away from being tight at the back.
The perfect partner?
White is pacy and can cover for Harry Maguire, who is not really known for his pace. However, he is not the left-footed defender that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is craving for.
The 22-year-old has made 118 appearances at the senior level. White was also voted as the best young player in the EFL by Sky Sports readers.
White has shown excellent fitness to complete a hectic Championship season without missing a single minute of it. The fact that he was able to keep up his performance levels consistently bodes well for the future.
