Twitter reacts as Bruno Fernandes and Victor Lindelof spar in Manchester United loss to Sevilla
It was a night to forget for Manchester United as they crashed out of the semifinals of the Europa League to Sevilla.
The Red Devils took the lead through another Bruno Fernandes penalty in the first half. Sevilla equalized through Suso, with both teams going into the break on level terms.
United came out all guns firing after the break. However, inspired goalkeeping and a spate of last-ditch blocks ensured Sevilla kept the scores level.
A defining moment of the match saw two United stars square off against each other. The incident occurred in the 78th minute after Luuk De Jong put Sevilla ahead.
Fernandes appeared unsatisfied by Victor Lindelof’s defending and openly pointed it out to the Swede. The United defender did not take it well and lashed back at the Portuguese.
United fans were split on which side to take in the tussle. Fernandes is right to call out poor performances or mediocrity. However, it is possible he was lashing out against the wrong player.
It can be argued that Brandon Williams should have done better to prevent the cross while Aaron Wan-Bissaka was the one who lost sign of De Jong, who ghosted in on the far post.
The United backline was far from perfect. Blaming it all on Lindelof looks to be a case of making him a fall guy rather than address the uniform lack of ability. We take a look at how some fans reacted to the incident.

Absolutely loved seeing Bruno Fernandes tearing into Victor Lindelof and calling out his shit defending. Fernandes is the reason United are playing Champions League football next season. He won’t want to see Lindelof starting next season. New top CB required. #MUFC

Bruno bollocking Lindelof. He’s right. Could have shouted at them all though. Again, lack of leadership in defence. #MUFC

Lindelof should have a look at himself first rather then talking to shit to Bruno. Had he managed to be good at defending we would not be in this place to begin with.

Brandon should stop the cross.

Lindeloff and Maguire need to be deeper (closer to the center of the goal)
Wan Bissaka needs to man mark if those two things don’t happen
Ironically they all didn’t happen
Awb all day long! He literally just stops marking his man lets him get right infront of goal

If you really blame Lindelof for that moment with Bruno, you have no shame. He’s been our best cb this season without a doubt.

Again, English BS. Lindelof is getting the stick for AWB’s error. That was his man to mark. Pathetic

Bruno Fernandes telling Victor Lindelof he needed to do better is everything a Man Utd player should be. Mediocrity is not good enough. I like Lindelof but that was very, very poor. Fernandes a true leader #MUFC #MUNSEV

The best highlight of that match was Bruno Fernandes screaming at Lindelof.
