According to French publication Le10Sport (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United are keen on PSG midfielder Idrissa Gueye.

The Senegalese is familiar with the Premier League, having spent four years at Aston Villa and Everton. During this time, he made 134 top-flight appearances, scoring three goals and assisting six more.

United are not his only admirers, with Wolverhampton Wanderers also keen. Primarily a defensive midfielder, he is also capable of playing centrally or even on the right.

PSG are open to selling the player for the right price. Gueye signed for PSG last summer for £30m.

Signing Bruno Fernandes in January was a gamechanger for United. The Portuguese international offered another dimension to United’s attack.

He also formed a promising partnership with Paul Pogba. Signing a defensive midfielder will help free up both the players for attacking responsibilities.

A player adept at breaking up play and winning back the ball, Gueye can act as the fulcrum to our midfield. His pressing and awareness also adds another element that will give us a cutting edge.

In fact, he completed most tackles for a player in the 2016-17 Premier League campaign. Although Nemanja Matic signed a new contract, he is not getting any younger. Bringing in Gueye will give United yet another option in the same position.

An energetic midfield presence, the 30-year-old still has a few years left in him. He might not be a swashbuckler that fans dream of but can be an effective player well versed in the rigours of the English game.

Leicester City took a gamble by bringing in a relatively unknown player in N’Golo Kante who helped them transform their fortunes.

Years later, United can do the same with Gueye. Perhaps aptly, he was once called ‘the new Kante‘. The prophecy might finally now be fulfilled.
