Paul Pogba is closing in on a new Manchester United contract
According to the Sun, Manchester United superstar Paul Pogba is close to agreeing to a new five-year contract at the club.
It represents a remarkable turnaround for a player who looked to be on his way out for the better part of over a year.
A resurgence in form both for him and the club has seen him change his mind. According to the report, United expect to announce the deal by the end of the season.
The Frenchman endured a nightmare first half to the season. His form fell off a cliff on the pitch while his agent continued to be a nightmare off it. He was too much trouble than he was worth, leading Ole Gunnar Solskajer to plan for life without his star man.
The upturn in attitude and form have both come at the right time as United close in top four and potentially two cup finals.
The Frenchman has formed a solid partnership alongside new signing Bruno Fernandes. The duo has shown excellent chemistry and have provided the club with a core to build upon.
A well-earned rest
Pogba endured a tough time against Southampton and was responsible for the error that led to their first goal. Having played in all six Premier League matches since the restart, fatigue might be creeping in.
Solskjaer understands it and could bench him for the clash against Palace. This should give him the rest he needs, ensuring he is back to his best against Chelsea at the weekend.
The club’s record signing, Pogba failed to live up to the promise he showed in his first season back at the club. A world-class player and a proven matchwinner, he finally looks to have hit his stride.
