Barcelona respond to Manchester United’s improved offer for Ansu Fati
According to the Times, Barcelona have responded to the improved offer from Manchester United for wonderkid Ansu Fati.
Having seen their initial bid of £89million rejected United returned with an improved bid worth a total of £135m. This included performance-related add-ons worth £45m. (h/t The Times)
This too has unfortunately been rejected. Barcelona have made it clear that the player will only be allowed to leave if his release clause is met in full.
Standing at a mammoth £153m, the Catalans are unwilling to accept a penny less. They also are keen to receive the complete fee in full sans any clauses. (h/t Metro)
United, however, remain hopeful that a deal can be struck in the coming weeks, especially if Barcelona fail to offload their senior stars.
The Catalans have been especially hit by the financial effects of the coronavirus pandemic. Players have declined to take a pay cut, while the club will have to sell before they can buy. (h/t Metro)
Familiar names such as Philippe Coutinho, Ivan Rakitic and Samuel Umititi are all up for grabs. Unfortunately, they have few suitors adding to Barcelona’s woes. (h/t Metro)
In this scenario, United hope that an in-demand player such as Fati will be put on the market.
Primarily a left-winger, Fati is capable of playing anywhere along the frontline. He has made 24 appearances for the Catalans this season, scoring five goals and one assist. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Josep Maria Bartomeu is not at all interested in selling the youngster. He views the youngster as a key player in the future. With Messi soon to turn 33, Bartomeu’s sentiments are understandable.

The 17-year-old is the youngest player in La Liga history to score a brace. Meeting his release clause will make him the most expensive United signing in history.
If he continues in this trajectory, he will be well worth it.
