Ajax coach Ronald de Boer suggests Manchester United could sign Donny van de Beek
Ajax youth team coach Ronald de Boer has suggested that Manchester United could beat Real Madrid to the signing of midfielder Donny van de Beek this summer. (h/t MEN)
Van de Beek has been on United’s radar since last summer. However, a move failed to materialise, as he stayed at Ajax and enjoyed another spectacular campaign.
The Dutchman finished the 2019/20 campaign with 10 goals and 11 assists in 37 matches in all competitions. This has once again led to interest from both Manchester United and Real Madrid. This was confirmed by Ajax director Edwin van der Sar recently. (h/t MEN)
While it is believed that Real Madrid are the favourites to sign the 23-year-old, De Boer is of the opinion that Manchester United have a chance to beat the Spanish heavyweights to the Ajax midfielder’s signing. (FOX Sports h/t MEN)
“If Real Madrid again decide not to report themselves at Donny, then I can understand it if he decides to go to Manchester United instead.”
With Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pobga in town, there seems to be ample creativity in midfield at United. However, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on adding another creative outlet to the side. (h/t MEN)

Van de Beek, to that end, would be a fine addition, considering his ability to score and assist in equal measure. In addition, at 23, he will also be a long-term addition to the ranks.
It remains to be seen if United do go after the Dutchman, especially in the current circumstances wherein finances have been negatively impacted because of the pandemic.
