Manchester United to submit improved offer for Ansu Fati after Barcelona reject £89m bid

According to a report from Sport (h/t Metro), Manchester United will return with a bigger offer for Barcelona’s breakout star Ansu Fati, after an initial bid was rejected.

Reports in Spain claimed earlier this week that the Red Devils had made an offer of a €100m (£89m). However, Barcelona rebuffed the club’s advances adding that the only way Fati would be sold is if United match his release clause of £151.5m. (h/t Metro)

However, Manchester United have not been dissuaded by that and are now set to come back with an improved offer for the 17-year-old sensation. (h/t Metro)

A product of Barcelona’s fabled La Masia academy, Fati broke through the Catalans’ first-team in the 2019/20 term. The youngster has gone on to make quite the wave since, bagging 5 goals and an assist in 24 matches so far.

Fati became the youngest ever goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League at 17 years and 40 days when he fired Barcelona to a 2-1 win over Inter Milan in the group stages.

Manchester United have prioritised the signing of a new winger heading into the summer transfer window. Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho is the top target for the Red Devils. (h/t Metro)

However, the club is preparing for a scenario wherein the England international doesn’t join us. To that end, alternative plans are being drawn up. And Ansu Fati is among those who is viewed as a Plan B. (h/t Metro)

A special talent, Fati is seen as a key part of the future by Barcelona. Hence, they are reluctant to sell him. (h/t Metro)

And given his steep release clause, it wouldn’t make much sense for Manchester United to go after him instead of Sancho, who is likely to cost lesser and is a more experienced star than the teenager.
